2022 Commonwealth Games: All the info you need to know
The 2022 Birmingham Commonwealth Games are set to commence on Friday afternoon Australian time, with our Australian Jackaroos primed to take it up against the best in the Commonwealth.
Here are some key details to keep in mind ahead of the Games.
When do the Games start? How long do they run for?
The 2022 Commonwealth Games opening ceremony takes place on Thursday night (Birmingham time), which is from 4.45am AEST on Friday morning, with bowls play commencing on Friday, July 29, which will be from 5.30pm AEST on Friday night. Bowls action will run every day until the final matches are completed on August 6.
The bowls will be played at Leamington Spa, about 45-50 minutes from Birmingham.
What is the time difference between Birmingham and Australia?
Birmingham’s British Summer Time (BST) is currently nine hours behind AEST, and seven hours behind AWST. Play starts each day from 8.30am local time, and wraps up around 8pm, so make the relevant time adjustments wherever you’re based!

What’s the format?
Singles: Four bowls each, first to 21 wins
Pairs: Three bowls, 18 ends
Triples: Two bowls, 18 ends
Fours: Two bowls, 15 ends
Para pairs events: Three bowls, 15 ends
A limit of 2 hours 15 minutes applies to all sectional matches for all disciplines. Time limits will not apply to knockout finals matches.
