2023 Australian Indoor Championships draws released
The draws for the 2023 Australian Indoor Championships have been released and as per usual both of the fields that are set to converge on Club Tweed are littered with an abundance of talent.
Both of the 2022 champions in Kelsey Cottrell and Aron Sherriff will return to the event as they look to maintain their dominance on indoor greens, but in addition are a plethora of Right at Home Jackaroos and plenty of national champions to make the tournament as hotly contested as ever.
The women’s draw sees top seed Cottrell kick start her title defence against the Northern Territory’s Karen Lane, with a possible second round clash with an in-form Louise Cronan, who is fresh off a quarterfinal run in the women’s pairs at the Australian Open.
Cronan takes on Club Charlestown’s Terrie-Ann Jones in the opener, while in the same quarter former Jackaroo Kate Carriage takes on 2022 quarterfinalist Eugenie Muncaster in what promises to be a tantalising encounter.
The winner of that will take on either the in-form Emerging Jackaroo Chloe Morrison, who last week claimed silverware at the National Development Series, or Victoria’s Angela Hackett.
The second quarter sees Chloe Stewart up against Clayton’s Lynne Wood in her opening contest, with a possible matchup with Jessie Cottell in the round of 16.
South Australian stalwart Laini McGorman lies in the third quarter of the field, set to take on Victoria’s Leah McArthur in the first round.
Lying dangerously in that section of the draw are Kay Moran and Ellen Falkner, with both former internationals slated to face off in the second round should they overcome Brooke Edwards and Sharon Kavanagh respectively.
The bottom section sees an intriguing matchup between 2023 Australian Open under 18 girl’s singles champion Reese Finn-Young and Dandenong’s Nicole McKenzie, with the victor setting up a possible matchup with Western Australian Over 60’s Jackaroo in Lisa Featherby.
At the bottom of the draw is second seed and Australian Open women’s singles conqueror Cassandra Millerick, who commences her tournament against New South Wales’ Carolyn Glenn as she looks to maintain her national singles dominance.

Meanwhile in the men’s draw, Sherriff begins his title defence facing the ACT’s Adam Wallace, with former Australian international Ray Pearse lying ominously in his quarter, set to take on Darwin’s Jonard Galicinao in his opening clash.
The second portion of the group sees Jackaroo Ben Twist kick start his event with a matchup against Club Tweed’s Adam McKeown, with the chance of a clash with 2022 Australian Open multi-disability singles runner up Frank Krslovic in the round of 16.
Pathway Jackaroo Brendan Gallagher lies in the same quarter, with his opening round a tough one against Western Australian Warren Holt.
Tasmanian star Taelyn Male sits in the bottom half of the draw, launching his campaign against Victoria’s Jackson Riley, with Jackaroo Jesse Noronha placed in the same quarter to take on South Bendigo’s Matt Robertson in his opening contest.
Both Male and Noronha progressed to the round of 16 in last year’s competition.
