The commencing day of the 2024 Australian Sides Championships brought forth some stunning upsets and mind blowing matchups that dazzled Club Tweed.

Marj Morris Trophy

The defending champions in Victoria have ended the first day with an undefeated record after an opening round win over the Northern Territory before backing it up with a stirring win over New South Wales.

The Blues led by as much as eight shots in the topsy turvy contest before Victoria held a two-shot lead on the master board with two ends to complete.

A Cass Millerick bomb saw the state net a single before saving what they needed on the next rink to take a huge win despite only winning one of the three rinks.

Queensland sit on top of the ladder after a pair of victories over South Australia and Tasmania with the ACT, New South Wales, Western Australia and Tasmania following from third to sixth with even ledgers.

South Australia and the Northern Territory make up the rest of the states.

Alley Shield

New South Wales kicked off their title defence in style as the only team to go undefeated on the first day of competition with a victory over the ACT and Victoria.

The Blues’ second contest against their southern neighbours saw them go down late in the piece before some moments of individual brilliance from various players saw them take a vital scalp.

Victoria sit second with Queensland following on in third despite a loss to South Australia in the opening round.

Western Australia are in fourth with Tasmania following in fifth and the South Australians in sixth.

The ACT and the Northern Territory make up the rest of the states.
