2025 Nationals: Day 11 wrap
New South Wales has emerged from day two of the 2025 Australian Sides Championships as the only unblemished team after a historic day at the Devonport Country Club.
Alley Shield – Men
The day started with a recognition of Victoria’s Matthew Flapper becoming the national games record holder after notching up his 442nd state representative game against Western Australia in the morning session.
The former Right at Home Jackaroo has been a stalwart for the State and continues to be a great ambassador for the game of bowls.
Victoria would go on to win the Western Australian matchup 58-46 and finished the day in fourth position with an even ledger of two wins and two losses.
The milestones continued, with Tasmania’s Mark Strochnetter celebrating game 346 with the State and breaking the Tasmanian games record, previously held by Chris McKibben.
However, the fairytale did not eventuate for Strochnetter, with the Apple Isle narrowly going down to New South Wales 56-50.
New South Wales extended their win streak to 23 ties and sit a game clear on top of the ladder.
Queensland had a fruitful day, defeating Northern Territory and Victoria to jump to second position with three wins and a loss, while Tasmania sits half a rink point behind in third position.
South Australia and Western Australia both notched up their first victories of the tournament, while the Australian Capital Territory and Northern Territory are yet to record a win.
Marj Morris Trophy – Women
New South Wales ran rampant, downing South Australia by 50 shots and Tasmania by 29 shots to finish the day as clear leaders in the race for the Marj Morris Trophy.
The Blues have only dropped one rink in their four matchups so far and have a shot difference of 143.
Despite losing to New South Wales in the afternoon session, Tasmania is in second position with three wins and a loss, with Victoria right behind.
Queensland rounds out the top four on two wins and two losses, with their title defence looking precarious.
Western Australia, South Australia, Australian Capital Territory and Northern Territory complete the ladder with three rounds left to play.
