2025 Nationals: Day 12 wrap
New South Wales capped off an incredible day in Devonport to stitch up the Marj Morris Trophy with one round to go, while Queensland sit in pole position to win the Alley Shield at the 2025 Australian Sides Championships.
Marj Morris Trophy – Women
New South Wales commenced the morning with a gargantuan win over Queensland on the indoor green of Devonport, winning all three rinks to give themselves an opportunity to win the title in the final round of the day against the Northern Territory.
The Blues would duly oblige in the afternoon, winning 99-32 to seal the state’s first title since 2022 with a round to spare tomorrow.
Victoria would jump into second place thanks to a gritty win over Tasmania in the morning before holding on for a final end 62-60 win over the ACT in the final round of the day.
Tasmania would finish the day third with Queensland following in fourth.
South Australia sit fifth, one point ahead of the ACT, with Western Australia and the Northern Territory rounding out the table.
Alley Shield – Men
It was a maroon day as Queensland ended New South Wales’ 23-match winning streak at the event that dated back to 2022.
After a seesawing start, the Queenslanders emerged victorious to put themselves on top of the ladder ahead of a huge clash with Western Australia.
With New South Wales winning all three rinks against the Northern Territory, the maroons at least needed two against their Western Rivals to alleviate some pressure heading into the final round.
Going into the last end of the day with one rink win and a loss banked already, Sean Ingham was 19-22 down as he stood on the mat for the final bowl of the tie.
He played a bomb to collect a four and a vital rink salutation to sit one and a half ahead of the Blues, with Victoria a further win back in third.
South Australia have jumped into fourth with Tasmania in fifth after a winless day, while the ACT, Western Australia and Northern Territory round out the ladder.
