2025 Nationals: Day 13 wrap
The Alley Shield and Marj Morris trophy were exchanged at the border between Queensland and New South Wales after the final day concluded at the 2025 Australian Sides Championships in Devonport.
Marj Morris Trophy – Women
Having not won the trophy since 2022, New South Wales’ women went unblemished following a big win over the ACT to take the title.
Coming second 2023 and 2024, the Blues were rampant across the three and a half days to lose just one rink from the 21 that they completed to clinch a 15th Marj Morris trophy.
Victoria would clinch the silver medal thanks to a win over the Northern Territory with Tasmania following closely behind in third.
Queensland’s title defence ended with a fourth place showing ahead of South Australia in fifth, with the ACT capping off a fantastic week in sixth.
Western Australia and the Northern Territory rounded out the table.
The best rink was awarded to the New South Wales lineup of Erin Swatridge, Jessie Cottell, Anne Johns and Natasha Van Edlik who won all seven matchups with a shot difference of 102.
Alley Shield – Men
Like New South Wales in the women’s, Queensland would win their first title since 2022 following a dominant performance against South Australia to finish proceedings.
With a little less pressure than what there could have been thanks to Sean Ingham on Saturday, the maroons required the overall master board and two rink wins to ensure the Alley Shield would head north of the border.
They obliged with glee to seal the state’s 15th crown, with New South Wales’ comprehensive win over the ACT not enough to overturn the rink deficit that they needed to rectify.
Following the silver medallists were Victoria in third with the home state of Tasmania jumping into fourth following a round seven salutation.
South Australia finished in fifth ahead of the ACT, Western Australia and the Northern Territory.
Like in 2024, Victoria would clinch the best overall rink despite finishing in third position on the ladder as Tyson Cromie, Dane McKinnon, Bryce Young and Nathan Lynch enjoyed a perfect record to take the gold.
Overall champion trophy
For the sixth consecutive year, New South Wales would win the trophy for the best overall state.
