Ellen Ryan to miss opening day of Multi-Nations
Two-time Commonwealth Games gold medallist Ellen Ryan has withdrawn from the opening day of the 2023 Multi-Nations on Saturday due to personal reasons.
The 25-year-old was set to front up win the women’s pairs with her Birmingham 2022 partner Kristina Krstic at Broadbeach, but will instead commence her playing duties on Sunday at Paradise Point.
The National Selection Panel has deemed that due to the close proximity of the announcement to the inaugural day of the tournament, Karen Murphy AM will fill in as the substitute for the first day’s play.
National Coach Gary Willis wishes Ryan his best and knows that the Jackaroos family will be there for the Goulburn native on her return to the playing duties.
“We fully support Ellen and aim to ensure that she is given the proper time to attend to her matters at home, as we do with all of our squad members,” Willis said.
“The team looks forward to welcoming her back with open arms on Sunday.
“The National Selection Panel deliberated long and hard on how to go about choosing a substitute, but due to the short turnaround before the commencement of the event, it was the best outcome to have Karen come into the team.”
The Multi-Nations begins on Saturday, March 25, and runs until Friday, March 31.
