Chris Fox, Peter Gribbin and Trent Gribbin (pictured above) of Pakenham BC was the winning team from qualifying on the night.
This follows last week’s announcement from Bowls Australia (BA) that this year’s national BPL Cup matches will be shown on Fox Sports.
The BPL Cup is a fast and competitive Club competition that mirrors the format of the Bowls Premier League, as televised from New Zealand recently, and is into its second staging, with a progressive competition structure that concludes with a national decider featuring winners from each state and territory, held in conjunction with the BPL in November at Brisbane’s Club Pine Rivers.
The 2018 BPL Cup competition has kicked off in several states already, including in Victoria with Pakenham hosting the first qualifying event as mentioned.
The BPL Cup is in its second season and offers the chance for any Club team (of open gender) to represent their Club at local, regional and state/territory finals.
Winners of state/territory final win an all-expenses-paid trip to Queensland to play alongside the BPL teams in national finals mid-November.
Adding even more impetus to the event this year is the exciting announcement that all of this year’s matches played during national finals for the BPL Cup will be televised on Fox Sports.
The quarter-finals, semi-finals and final will all be filmed and telecast (on delay), displaying the best Club teams going head-to-head in one-hour matches across seven episodes.
Full draws and results for all regional BPL Cup rounds can be found at www.bowls.com.au/BPL-Cup.
