BPL17: Day 1 wrap
Four teams have staggeringly finished the opening day of BPL17 undefeated on a hot day at the Moama Bowling Club where the opening three rounds went wonders in setting up the competition.
The Sydney Lions, Moama Steamers, Adelaide Pioneers and Tweed Heads Ospreys all concluded the afternoon unblemished from their three contests, giving themselves a strong foothold within the top five.
Sydney will enter the second day of action on top of the table, recording three straight sets victories against the Melbourne Pulse, Perth Suns and the Gold Coast Hawks.
Aaron Wilson, Karen Murphy and Ben Twist, who claimed the last BPL in Moama a year ago, recorded a shot difference of plus 49 from their three matches and were in complete control in their bid for a fifth title as a franchise.
Aron Sherriff, Ryan Bester and Cassandra Millerick enjoyed a successful day for the home franchise as the Steamers surrendered just a solitary set, with wins against the Tasmania Tridents, the Hawks and Melbourne eXtreme.
The opening match saw Moama down a set and 3-6 against Tasmania before Sherriff converted a five on a power play to sink the Tridents hopes of a first up victory.

In the hopes of rectifying their loss in the BPL16 decider, the Pioneers kicked off the new edition in style victories over the Suns, Moreton Bay Pirates and Tridents.
A year ago the Ospreys were bidding for a three-peat but only have one finals series to show from three events in 2022, but Aaron Teys, Corey Wedlock and Chloe Stewart went the right way about rectifying that with victories against the Pirates, eXtreme and Pulse.
The chasing pack is headed by the Pirates in fifth with one win, followed closely by the two-time defending champions in the Pulse and BPL15 finalists the eXtreme.
Tasmania, Gold Coast and Perth round out the table after a lean day, with none of the franchises registering a win.
#BPL17 continues tomorrow will be broadcast live on Fox Sports, Kayo and Sky Sports NZ from Tuesday to Friday from 4pm-10pm AEDT.
