BPL20: Day 1 recap

by Aidan Davis on November 11, 2024

No team was able to escape the opening day of Bowls Premier League action unscathed, after a heated start to BPL20 at Club Pine Rivers today.

With the addition of two new teams and an expanded 22-round format, five rounds were contested on the carpet on the opening day, two more than previous events, but none of the franchises enjoyed a flawless start to their campaign with stiff competition.

Just two of the teams concluded the day with a 4-1 record, with the Tasmania Tridents leading the standings with a +43 shot differential, 49 shots clear of the next best.

The Tridents took the ascendancy after a fifth rubber top-of-the-table clash with the Perth Suns, relegating the Suns to third place.

Reigning champions Melbourne Pulse were the other team to suffer just one blemish to their name.

It took until the last rubber for the Gold Coast Hawks to record their first victory, relegating the Sydney Saints to the 12-spot after their maiden day.

BPL20 runs from November 11-15, 2024, at Club Pine Rivers with live-streaming on Bowls Australia’s YouTube channel, as well as live broadcasts from Tuesday to Friday from 4pm until 10pm AEST on Fox, Kayo and Sky Sports NZ.
