Club in Focus: Camp Hill Bowls Club

by Connor Munnings on January 9, 2026

Founded in 1944, Camp Hill Bowls Club has been a thriving community hub and part of Brisbane life for more than eighty years.

The Club, which is perched atop a hill with panoramic city views, has grown from a bowls-only venue to a community-minded, family-focused not-for-profit that hosts functions, barefoot bowls and live music, and currently boasts 83 members.

One of its greens is now dedicated to community use, helping families and social players engage in bowls, while Sunday live music on the green is a regular staple, making everyone feel at home at ‘The Hill’.

With live music, trivia, comedy, open-mic and community nights, as well as a large function space for milestone celebrations, the Club is lively throughout the week.

A highlight on the calendar is the annual Riverfire on the Hill community day, where people congregate at the Club to watch the fireworks from a popular vantage point and listen to live music.

Camp Hill Bowls Club offers multiple entry points to bowls, including Jack Attack seasons, barefoot bowls, and welcoming social competitions.

These pathways have led participants to play the game more regularly, including in club championships and interclub fixtures.

The Camp Hill Cup, a two-bowl triples tournament, draws teams from across the district and showcases some of the Club’s best bowlers.

The Club’s aim for the future is to continue to grow participation across all ages and abilities, strengthen the pathway from barefoot and Jack Attack into regular competition, and keep families engaged through inclusive programming.

They will also continue to support volunteers, build local partnerships, and invest in access and inclusion upgrades to ensure the venue serves the community for decades to come.
