Community rallies behind Flemington & Kensington Bowling Club
The bowls community continues to rally behind the Flemington & Kensington bowls club after the popular Melbourne club was hit by vandals for the fifth time in less than four months. The community continues to rally behind the Flemington & Kensington Bowling Club after it was hit by vandals for the fifth time in less than four months.
Club secretary Oliver Warren says the response to the attacks, which has cost the club thousands each time, has been overwhelming.
“We’ve been overwhelmed with the response we’ve received, people are rightly outraged by the attacks,” he told 3AW Breakfast.
“The boss at Berry Bowling Systems who put our green in, heard me on Monday on 3AW, he got in touch and people volunteered to come in out of leave to get the green ready for our competition.
“It’s an amazing effort by them.”
While the club believe they are being deliberately targeted, they are at loss as to by whom and why.
“Sad to say it’s not the first time it’s happened. We put in security cameras in November or so and we thought that had stopped it but obviously it hasn’t,” Warren said.
“We’re at a complete loss about who’s doing it and why they’d be doing it.
“We’re not sure if it’s a disgruntled former member, or a local resident, or just a vandal.
“We assume it’s the same person every time. The MO is very similar each time.”
Vision of the attacks, although poorly lit, has been handed to police in the hope the perpetrator(s) is caught.
