Devastating floods impact revealed, donations needed

by Bowls Australia on March 10, 2022

As the wild weather continues to ravage parts of NSW and Queensland, the devastating impact of the floods on bowls clubs is beginning to be realised.

Damage has been widespread and directly affected at least 20 bowling clubs, making these floods the most devastating single natural disaster that the broader bowls community has seen for decades.

Damage incurred is already estimated to be in excess of $3 million, not including the value of any loss of trade clubs will have suffered.

Clubs that have suffered major flood damage include: The Albert (QLD); Kandanga (QLD); Tansey (QLD); Maryborough Services (QLD); Samford (QLD); Oxley (QLD); Goodna (QLD); Jindalee (QLD); Windsor (QLD); Daybro (QLD); Condong (NSW); South Lismore (NSW); Lismore City (NSW); Kyogle (NSW); Camden Sports(NSW); and Coraki (NSW)

Aspley (QLD), Mullumbimby (NSW), Wisemans Ferry (NSW), Manly (NSW), Mona Vale (NSW) and Sussex Inlet(NSW) have also been flooded.

HELP A CLUB IN NEED BY DONATING TO THE BOWLS DISASTER RELIEF FUND HERE

It has been heartening to see clubs from the impacted regions and around the country lend support in these difficult times, whether it be donating money or supplies to help anyway they can.

Bowls Australia would once again like to call on the generosity of the bowls community to dig deep to help those doing it tough.

Through the Bowls Disaster Relief Fund, all donated sums are re-directed to assist clubs in need.

As well as donating to the Bowls Disaster Relief Fund, impacted clubs can also be supported through the donation of specific items, with things such as greenkeepers’ equipment, floor coverings and furniture and green-side items (e.g. outdoor seating, rink pegs, drink holders, scoreboards etc.) among the most needed.

If you or your club is able to donate any items to a club in need, please email participation@bowls.com.au to facilitate your donation.

Bowls Australia thanks the bowls community in advance for its generosity in these difficult times.
