Marker

Officials at all levels are expected to possess the necessary skills and be able to perform their duties competently.

‘Markers’ are responsible for the efficient management of singles games. They have clearly defined duties and should have a thorough understanding of these duties and the rules and etiquette of the game.

The primary role of a ‘Marker’ is to assist players to ensure the game proceeds within the established laws and best practices.

The ‘Marker’ Module is one of the three components required, to complete accreditation as a ‘National Umpire’. Candidates can choose to complete only this module and achieve accreditation as a ‘Marker’.

The ‘Marker Module’ component of the ‘National Umpire’ course will cover the following:

  • Pre-Game: Preparing for the game and equipment required
  • During the Game: On-green demonstrations and assessments, role-play activities (positioning)
  • After the Game: Completing the scorecard
  • Duties of a Marker and Interpreting laws relating to marking a game of singles

Interested candidates should contact their ‘state or territory association, umpire contacts’ for details on upcoming courses for officials.
