Holdfast Bay Bowls Club in South Australia will again be in the headlines after securing the hosting rights of the 2016 Australian Under-18 Championships Holdfast Bay Bowls Club has today been announced the proud host venue of the 2016 Australian Under-18 Championships.

With the Under-18 Championships rotated around the state and territories each year, it was South Australia’s turn to host 80 of Australia’s brightest young stars and Holdfast Bay was the perfect choice.

Bowls Australia’s Event and Competition Manager Mark Casey says Holdfast Bay has a history of running large scale events and will do a fantastic job for all the juniors, officials and spectators.

“The greens at Holdfast Bay are always high quality, the club has good facilities including a large clubhouse, the location is perfect being so close to the airport, beaches and accommodation in the heart of Glenelg,” said Casey who knows the area well after spending time there with the Australian Jackaroos during the 2012 World Championships.

“I’m sure the competitors and spectators will enjoy the three days of competition at Holdfast Bay and thoroughly enjoy their time in South Australia as I have every time I have played at Holdfast Bay and neighbouring clubs.”

Holdfast Bay was a joint host venue for the 2012 World Championships and with a fantastic band of volunteers who give up their time to host numerous state and national events, the Australian Under-18 Championships will no doubt be second to none.

Holdfast Bay President John Caskey had just been speaking to the greenkeeper about preparing great quality greens for the event and says there is already a buzz around the club about having Australia’s best young bowlers coming in October.

“Holdfast Bay have held so many national events, were really experienced at running these type of championships and we thoroughly enjoy doing it,” said President Caskey.

“Everyone that comes to Holdfast Bay says we are in an ideal location so close to the airport, transport and accommodation.

“We have juniors at our club who are involved or been involved with the South Australian junior team and we feel that hosting Australia’s best young bowlers will encourage other young bowlers to take part.”

The Australian Under-18 Championships is an event that unearths young stars with the likes of Lynsey Clarke, Kelsey Cottrell and Mark Casey all rising through the ranks after successful junior careers.

Most recently young champions like Ellen Ryan and Jono Davis have shot to fame after claiming titles at the National Championships and going on to represent Australia in Junior Trans-Tasman’s.

The 2016 Australian Under-18 Championships will be held from October 1-3.
