Jackaroos’ golden haul at Six Nations
The Australian Jackaroos have commenced their gold rush with a three gold medal haul at the Six Nation Invitational in New Zealand and will contest another two tomorrow. The Australian Jackaroos have enjoyed a golden day on the greens at the Six Nation Invitational in Christchurch, claiming three gold medals on the penultimate day.
Despite being relegated to silver in their morning encounter against New Zealand in the men’s fours, where Wayne Ruediger, Barrie Lester, Mark Casey and Nathan Rice were upstaged by New Zealand 13-16, the Australian Jackaroos have gone on to secure their remaining three golden deciders at the international event and are back in the box seat to be named the best performed nation.
Australia will contest a total six gold medal games at the event, while the New Zealand booked a berth in five, but the Jackaroos remains ahead on the ledger after the second last day of play, after toppling the Blackjacks in the men’s and women’s triples and downing Malaysia in the women’s pairs this afternoon.
The male trio Ray Pearse, Brett Wilkie and Aron Sherriff and female contingent Carla Krizanic, Lysney Clarke and Natasha Scott kick started Australia’s campaign with its first two gold medals, defeating New Zealand 21-14 and 13-9 respectively, while Kelsey Cottrell and Karen Murphy untied in the third session to prevail against Malaysia 16-12.
New Zealand did take home two gold medals, in the men’s fours over Australia, and the women’s fours, where Australia finished fifth.
In the remaining matches tomorrow, Australia will first compete for bronze in the men’s pairs with Barrie Lester and Nathan Rice taking on Wales, followed by Karen Murphy in the blue-ribbon women’s singles and concluding with Aron Sherriff in the men’s singles, who will both square off against South Africans, in Colleen Piketh and Gerry Baker.
