Journey to the World Bowls Championships: Jake Fehlberg
Ahead of next week’s World Bowls Championships, the Right at Home Jackaroos share their journeys across the years that has seen them selected for the sport’s showpiece event on the Gold Coast.
Up next, Jake Fehlberg.
How did you get started in bowls?
I grew up around the club with my dad already being a bowler and a local coach asked my brother, Cody, and I to join his junior squad.
Which was the first bowls club you became involved with?
Burleigh Heads Bowls Club
Which clubs have you been involved with throughout your journey?
Burleigh Heads, Tugun and Bargara
Who is your current club and how have they shown you support throughout your career?
I have currently been at the Bargara Bowls club for about two years. They have been very welcoming to my family since we joined and are very supportive whether I’m representing the club or away representing Queensland or Australia.
Who has been the biggest influence on your bowls journey and why?
My dad Grant Fehlberg, the amount of time and effort he has committed with me over ten years as my director has been so wonderful, I wouldn’t be where I am in my bowls career without him.
Is there a particular coach who has influenced your bowls journey the most?
Ron Alexander from the Burleigh Heads Bowls Club was my coach for around ten years. He started with me while I was a junior and continued to help me train and keep me motivated and pushing myself until he passed away.
Why is the 2023 World Bowls Championships so important to you and the people who have helped you on your journey?
The 2023 world championships is important to me as the first time para bowls has been included giving us a chance to show people what we are capable of and that anyone can participate.
