KM56 Clothing Range launches
Jackaroos legend Karen Murphy OAM, in conjunction with Bowls Australia (BA), has launched the KM56 clothing range, offering women a more contemporary bowls garment.
In planning for over a year, the collection has been developed by Murphy in an aim to bring more females into bowls and make them feel more comfortable in a modern outfit.
The Commonwealth Games gold medallist and four-time World Champion has long been frustrated by women’s bowls fashion and the fact that the apparel options have been scarce over her career.
“It’s been in the pipeline for over twelve months now, we’ve been working really hard on it for quite a while in partnership with BA, so it’s nice to see it come to fruition,” Murphy said.
“Ladies bowls fashion has long frustrated me, I used to play the game wearing long white skirts, big white hats and stockings.
“I’m proud of how far the game has come but I still thought it was lacking in terms of women’s apparel on the market and was just after something new, refreshing and sporty to bring a bit of a refresher to the game.”
The National Assistant Coach has long felt that the clothing barrier has prevented copious females from taking up competitive bowls over the years, stating that the old fashioned styles have long been past their use by date.
“Ladies bowls apparel has been one of the biggest barriers for young getting into the sport.
“So the idea behind my range is to wear something to bowls and play all day before popping down to the shops in it and blending in with the crowd because they wouldn’t actually know you’ve been playing,” she added.
“You would be wearing something that’s multifunctional, you can wear it on a plane and even casually.
“I’m hoping to encourage some younger girls into the game and hopefully freshen up the apparel range is already out there.”
The range is available on The Bowls Shop, with polos, long length shorts, standard shorts, leggings and a KM56 cap all as part of the new collection.
