by Val Febbo on December 8, 2022

Australians Nick Cahill and Brianna Smith have booked passage to the knockout stages of the Junior World Bowls Indoor Championships in Belfast after another successful day.

The pair maintained their unblemished record in the mixed pairs discipline, earning a direct path through to the semifinals with a 14-1 7-4 victory over the Irish Swiss combination of Daniel Spratt and Larissa Rubin.

The Emerging Jackaroos ensured that they would finish on top of Section A and will await the playoff rounds to find out their semifinal opponents.

In the singles, Smith would fall to Wales’ Laura Gowen 10-2 6-5 and finish second in her section behind Hong Kong’s Yu Yee Sin.

Her second place books a playoff match against third placed Kara Lees, with the winner progressing to a semi.

The situation is the same for Cahill, who’s 8-2 6-5 win over the USA’s Angel Gomez ensured his second place in Section A.

The Queenslander, like Smith, will face an opponent from Hong Kong with Chow Ho Yin standing in his way of a spot in the final four.
