Logan upsets Australia’s best
With so many crucial games taking place in rounds five, the Australian Champion of Champions at Coolum Beach is certainly heating up! Debbie Logan has caused the upset of the round defeating Australia’s number one ranked female bowler Natasha Scott to keep her chances of winning the prestigious Australian Champion of Champions alive.
Logan stunned onlookers by jumping out to a 15-7 lead over tournament favourite; however the Australian Jackaroos squad member was always going to fight her way back into the match and despite the score line looking even scarier at 19-9, Scott strung four ends together and was looking like producing a miraculous come from behind victory.
At 19-15 Scott was holding shot however a perfectly executed conversion from Logan put a stop to Scott’s hot streak and claimed two for victory.
The much anticipated contest between Australian Jackaroos Natasha Scott and Rebecca Van Asch will now decide the fate of Scott who is in a must win situation; Logan will also be taking a keen interest in the showdown having now moved into second position on the ladder and is still lurking as a title contender.
On the other hand, Van Asch is in the box seat having not yet suffered a loss and could really stamp her authority on the tournament with a victory over fellow World Champion Natasha Scott.
Scott Thulborn’s Australian Champion of Champions title defence is looking strong after extending his lead at the top of the leader board with yet another dominate performance that saw the defending champion only require 13 ends to overcome Victoria’s David Wells.
Hot on his heels is yesterday’s giant killer Kenta Treacher who registered another confident boosting win 21-10 over Springwoods Harold Whitman to remain undefeated after four rounds.
Despite Western Australia’s Clive Adams suffering his first loss of the tournament at the hands of Treacher in the last round yesterday, Adams remains in contention having not yet come up against front runner, South Australia’s Scott Thulborn.
The do or die match for Adams will take place this afternoon with the inaugural Solargain Perth Suns member now needing to apply some margin over his APL rival to keep his chances alive.
In other matches Victoria’s Jody Nevill registered her first win of the tournament in a high quality contest against South Australia’s Renata Callisto 21-13.
Tasmania’s Andrew Whitmore also got on the board with a come from behind win over ACT’s Jeff Rankin.
Whitmore was trailing the Queanbeyan champion 7-11; however within four’s ends Whitmore had overtaken his opposition 14-11 and went on to claim his first victory 21-14.
