Bowls Australia’s Rookie Rollers program has wrapped up another successful year in 2025, introducing more than 23,200 school aged children across Australia to the sport of bowls.

Throughout 2025, the 189 Rookie Rollers programs that were delivered focused on giving children their first experience of bowls in an inclusive environment.

Using modified, purpose-designed equipment and bowls related activities, the program helped participants learn new skills and build on confidence and teamwork.

Most importantly was the introduction of a new generation to the sport, with Rookie Rollers showcasing bowls as a sport for all and creating positive early experiences.

“It’s been great to see the expansion of the program over the last 12 months,” said Bowls Australia Program and Participation Coordinator Patrick Newson.

“Year on year we are seeing an increase in the number of Rookie Rollers sessions across Australia, including in regional and remote areas, which is especially pleasing.

“Bowls Australia would like to extend a huge thank you to our coordinators across the country for running these programs.”

Rookie Rollers has also seen a huge uptake at local clubs, with many utilising the equipment to develop their own programs and encourage more juniors to take up the sport.

The program promises to continue growing in 2026, with bowls becoming more popular than ever as it pushes to be included in the Brisbane 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games.
