Smith and Cahill make their moves in Belfast
It was a successful second day for the Right at Home Emerging Jackaroo duo of Brianna Smith and Nick Cahill at the Junior World Bowls Indoor Championships in Belfast overnight, dropping just one match from their combines six.
Smith enjoyed a phenomenal day in the singles competition, moving to the top of Section A at the end of play.
The 23-year-old took down Israel’s Shira Eshel 15-4 14-1 in her opening match of the day before notching up a 7-5 8-4 win over Scotland’s Kara Lees to take a commanding position in the pool.
Smith now sits equal with Hong Kong’s Yu Yee Sin with six points with one sectional round to come.
The form would continue as she teamed up with Cahill to take a 16-1 17-3 victory against the Hungarian duo Mate Dobos and Sarolta Schrank and a 9-2 14-0 win against the American and Norfolk Island pairing of Angel Gomez and Ellie Dixon.
Cahill’s singles campaign would again have mixed fortunes, as the 2022 Male Bowler of the Year suffered an opening match defeat at the hands of Ireland’s Adam Rankin, before a 9-5 14-2 win over Guernsey’s Ben Harvey.
The Queenslander sits in third place in Section A behind England’s Harry Goodwin and Hong Kong’s Chow Yo Hin.
