The Tasmania Tridents triumph in the 2026 Junior BPL Challenge
The Tasmania Tridents were triumphant in the third edition of Junior BPL Challenge at Moama Bowling Club after a sensational final against the Sydney Lions that went down to the final bowl.
The island-based state team of Fletcher Felmingham, Miley Sutton, Lachlan Thurley and coach Amity Bickley went through their section undefeated, holding their nerve in decisive moments to win four tiebreaks.
Their grand final opponents in the Sydney Lions, which consisted of Zoe Davies, Tahlia Kennedy, Jack Barclay and coach Travis Moran, finished on top of their section after only dropping the one game to the Geelong Jets.
The Lions came out firing in the first set of the final, with Barclay playing superbly to help them win the set 9-1.
However, Tasmania responded strongly, clinching the first end of the second set thanks to a sensational weighted shot by skip Thurley.
With Felmingham and Sutton having found their rhythm, the Tridents continued to pile on the shots to take the second set 10-1 with an end to spare and send the game to a tiebreak.
The young stars from both teams put on a show in the tiebreak, not folding to the pressure of a final.
The Sydney Lions held the upper hand with two shots after some great bowls from Davies and Kennedy, but Lachlan Thurley had one bowl left to play.
The Tasmanian product from Ulverstone Bowls Club remained composed and played a sensational sit and stay shot to get the shot and win the title for the Tasmania Tridents.
