Vale: Robert (Bob) Middleton
Bowls Australia was saddened to hear of the recent passing of Hall of Fame member Robert (Bob) Middleton OAM.
Bob was a revered name in Victorian and Australian bowls, earning the honour as the 57th man to represent Australia on the international stage.
Competing at three international events (1976 World Championships, 1984 World Championships, 1984 Trans Tasman), Bob had an accomplished career.
He finished with two World Championships bronze medals (1976 & 1984 pairs), while also claiming a silver in the singles at the 1976 event.
As well as international success, Bob was a champion Victorian bowler too, donning the big V on more than 300 occasions, with countless accolades to his name.

In 2011, Bob was part of the first group of inductees into the Bowls Australia Hall of Fame in 2011, recognised for his impressive efforts on and off the greens over the years.
So significant was his impact on the sport, the Australian Under-18 Championships overall state champions trophy is named in his honour, the Robert Middleton Trophy.
Recognition for his contributions was additionally made on Australia Day in 1999, when he was awarded the Medal of the Order of Australia.
